Taiji Nei Gong & Qi Gong:
Exercise Routines for Basic Strength, Health & Longevity
Nei gong (inner skillfully applied work) training is the foundation of Chen Taijiquan. The training involved comes from the early part of the Chen Taijiquan system. As stated in the section on Chen Training, it goes from sitting to moving types of exercises. It's a low-impact exercise designed to strengthen the entire body system from inner to outer. The ancient concepts of Dao Yin and Tu Na form the foundation of the training.
Dao Yin is the practice of guiding the qi (chi) and extending/expanding our body while moving in order to obtain a beneficial effect to our health.
Tu Na is the practice of deep breathing. Tu means exhaling, Na means inhaling. The idea is to use various breathing methods to expel disharmonious energy and replace it with fresh energy.
The practice of Dao Yin and Tu Na combined form what most term Qi Gong (chi kung). The practice of balancing the breath with the focused mind guiding the inner energy to produce physical movement to dredge the bodies energy channels and strengthen the mind, body and spirit.
The primary focus is on the skeleton, joints, tendons and ligaments. It helps practitioners to understand proper structure and how to align with gravity. It also teaches how to release excess tension and get complete functioning of the spine. Internally, the nervous system and organ functions are greatly improved. The circulatory and respiratory systems are also enhanced.
Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan) is well known for relieving arthritis, back pain, rheumatism, and carpal tunnel, among many other claims.
